Project Overview
The Project involves the development of the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) Special Economic Zone (SEZ) - AgroIndustrial and Information Technology Parks. The development of UPLB SEZ will consist of research and development zones and venues for school activities, recreation services, and other convenience that will provide opportunities for UPLB constituents. It is envisioned to be the preferred destination of locators looking to take advantage of a robust academe-industry partnership.
UPLB is envisioned to have an active role in delivering innovative new products/services to the market through its research facilities (i.e., Institute of Plant Breeding, BIOTECH – Philippine National Collection of Microorganism, National Crop Protection Center, etc.) as well as the involvement of its pool of experts (i.e., engineers, agriculturists, chemist, etc.).
Leveraging its research capability through its various institutes as well as pool of experts, UPLB has a distinct advantage to provide an environment for collaborative learning and give technical support for research and development, which would be beneficial for locators’ product or technology development. Through this potential close collaboration of the locators and UPLB, the SEZ is envisioned to be a hub for complementary and synergetic opportunities not just for the industry and the academe but also for the community as well through the augmentation of the labor market and the innovation space.
